Security alert after illegal phone-card calls
Article Abstract:
Two Hong Kong long-distance calling card holders discovered their phone bills totalling thousands of dollars while they were in the U.S. in March and April 1998. Leaked information on account numbers and Personal Identification Numbers is believed to be behind the unauthorised calls. The Office of Telecommunications Authority reminded phone card holders to tighten security of calling cards. Should they discover unauthorised calls have been made from their calling card accounts during overseas trips, they should report to the calling card operator and local police immediately and report to the Hong Kong Police upon return. *

Regarding to IT bureau's telecom review consultation which ended last week, Asia Pacific and WorldCom both favoured the market opening plan. *

firms oppose telecoms plans
Article Abstract:
Hutchison Telecom, New T&T and New World Telephone showed opposition on allowing local and foreign firms to take part in Hong Kong's fixed telecommunication market. It is because they need more time to grow by maximising its facilities usage. China Light & Power and World-Com Asia Pacific welcome the government's decision as they want to start business in Hong Kong's telecom services. The pressure group Hong Kong Telecommunications Users said opening fixed telecommunication market would give more choices to consumers. *
