Seoul as suitor
Article Abstract:
South Korean Pres Roh Tae Woo's recent announcement allowing a group of South Korean businessmen and government officials to explore investment opportunities in North Korea marks a significant step in efforts to reunify the economies of the two Koreas. The South Korean leader had earlier reiterated that economic cooperation can only occur if North Korea agrees to the inspection of its nuclear facilities. But pressure from South Korean businessmen and fears of a Japanese foothold in the North Korean market may have forced the government to soften its stand.

Out of chaos, profits: Goldstar's new washing machine has rivals sweating
Article Abstract:
Goldstar has developed the first consumer product based on chaos theory, its new washing machine. The machine uses a pulsator to stir the water in a motion that produces the most effective cleaning movements of a standard washing machine. The advertising campaign for the washer emphasizes the chaotic aspects of the machine as well as its Korean origin in an effort to take advantage of that country's nation-wide publicity on local technologies. Older washers were built using fuzzy logic but chaos washers are easily explained and more effective.
