Shark fishing
Article Abstract:
Brazil is carrying out a drive against organized crime which has managed to catch some major participants, such as a deputy for Acre, a state in the Brazilian Amazon, called Hildebrando Pascoal. He allegedly ran a death squad and drugs gang, and has been expelled from Brazil's Congress. There is a revulsion against corruption in Brazil, and the anti-corruption drive has popular support, so there is a possibility that it will be more successful than previous measures. Meanwhile, there is an inquiry into fraud allegations relating to the national roads agency, and bribery allegations relating to gaming licenses for Italian mafia groups.
