Shiseido takes a shine to overseas acquisitions
Article Abstract:
Shiseido Co. Ltd.'s long dominance in the Japanese cosmetics market has been weakened by the deregulation of cosmetics imports and the strict enforcement of antitrust laws. To sustain profitability, the company plans to launch an aggressive foreign acquisitions campaign to boost its access to international markets. However, some industry analysts warned that Shiseido may find it difficult to carve a profitable niche in the international cosmetics market. One of its possible acquisitions for 1996 is Donna Karan International Inc.'s cosmetics subsidiary.
