Sigcau propels South African privatisation
Article Abstract:
Privatisation in South Africa is moving smoothly and Sun Air, Aventura, and Telkom have already been sold. SAFCOL is due to be privatised in Dec 1998. Serious debts and structural problems in the Ministry for Public Enterprises have to be tackled before these companies can be privatised. Four experts have been brought in to do this. Denel could be broken into five subsidiaries covering artillery, IT, property, civilian products and aviation. The aim of selling SAFCOL is to increase investment and exports, improve environmental policies and also increase employment opportunities.
