Singapore fund seeks value: Abtrust disregards gloomy view on economy
Article Abstract:
Abtrust Fund Managers (Singapore) Ltd. sought to disprove unfavorable forecasts on Singapore's economy with its launch in Oct. 1996 of the Singapore Growth Fund, an equity fund which invests solely in domestic stocks. Hugh Young, managing director of Abtrust, said the country offers a favorable buying opportunity since its market is cheap and has high value. He also points out that growth rates are strong compared with those of mature Western markets. He recommends a number of preferred stocks in the fund, such as GP Batteries International Ltd. and Gold Peak Industries Holdings Ltd.
