M&A really takes off in Asia
Article Abstract:
There was a substantial increase in the volume of merger and acquisition activity in Asia in 1996. This was fuelled by the deregulation of financial services industries and by the increasingly mature nature of the economies of the region. Growing structural difficulties within Asian economies are prompting restructuring and outward investment. It is widely agreed that merger and acquisition activity will continue to expand in Asia.

China and Hong Kong begin their integration. (M&A deals in Asia in 1995)
Article Abstract:
Most Asian markets slumped in 1995 for the second consecutive year, with lean corporate finance activity and little M&A activity. Hostile bids are deterred as the country is dominated by family businesses. Corporate financiers concentrate on initial public offerings and privatisations which are driving much of the corporate finance market in the country.
