Small is profitable: America's "small cap" shares are tipped to outperform its big ones this year - again

The Russell Index and the Nasdaq Index are two which indicate the performances of small corporation stocks. The Russell 2,000 rose by 44% last year. Biotechnology and medical stocks were the best performers. The Nasdaq Index indicated a rise of 56.6%. After seven years, the smaller companies have outpaced the larger ones.

Investors mostly have luck to thank when they receive returns on stocks that are above the market average. Research shows that skill in choosing stocks is almost non-existent, and most individuals choose to deposit their savings rather than invest them in the stockmarket.

Pension trusts of companies with 1,000 or fewer employees have always been beyond the reach of individual investors even though they are now worth almost $400 billion. Money managers believe these trusts could attract a great deal of investors in the future.
