Social goals for Canadian business
Article Abstract:
Accountants must focus on ethics in corporate accounting to the satisfaction of workers, shareholders, suppliers, lenders, host communities, and customers. Roughly 125 of the biggest corporations in Canada are preparing statements of corporate social objectives to help in the management of corporate social responsibility. Some companies have added free-standing, comprehensive statements, while others have just added social policy statements to their procedural manuals.

A Canadian first: the UQAM management accounting undergraduate program
Article Abstract:
The University of Quebec has a study program in managerial accounting that is on the undergraduate level. During September of 1983, the university's business management department included 9,834 students, exactly 1,569 more than the previous year, as 3,351 students have sought an education in accounting, up 12 percent from the previous year. The accounting program seeks to enhance education in the data processing and finance areas.

The global economy did better than many projected for 1984. Canada was able to record a positive balance of trade with the U.S. Unemployment has dropped in the U.S. as both the consumer and capital spending markets improved.
