Sounds of silence: Chuan's low-key style masks returning tensions
Article Abstract:
Thailand's Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai is governing in a subduedand low-key manner based more on achievements rather than showcase projects. This is despite growing domestic criticism such as the recent outburst of angryMember of Parliament Chai Chidchob on Feb 27, 1993, who appeared to be incitingfor another military coup. Few Thais, however, think that the military still has the great potential to take power. Furthermore, Leekpai and army commander Gen Wimol Wongwanich are reported to have great respect for each other.
