German/SA radar offers ABM capability
Article Abstract:
South Africa-based Reutech Radar Systems and Germany-based Dasa are jointly developing the ESR380, a long-range L-band early warning radar with ballistic missile detection capability. The ESR380 has a slotted plank array size and an output power that are twice those of the ESR360L model. It is expected to replace the South African Air Force's backbone radar chain and to be ideal for an UAE air-defense radar requirement.

South African Air Force ground air-defense radar capability boost
Article Abstract:
The South African Air Force has begun operational trials of an upgraded BAE Systems AR-3D D-band early-warning radar, which has terrain-following and look-down capabilities. The upgrade improves the moving-target indication capability, height accuracy and stability of the AR-3D. System life has also been extended by 10 to 15 years and generates savings through the use of commercial off-the-shelf systems. The output of the AR- 3Ds is fed to an operations center where it would be correlated with that from mobile gapfiller radars.
