South African shoals divert 30 hours sail from the canneries in: pilchard catching boom!
Article Abstract:
South African fisheries are able to catch a lot of pilchard in this season. However, as the shoals have shifted a good 30 hours sail, the fishing vessels are forced to find ways to deliver the fish in time to the seafood processing industry. Seafood processors on the other hand are coming up with novel ways to ensure that the fish is delivered in time to the canneries. Some of these processes are discussed.
