South Korea's free trade executor
Article Abstract:
The economic recovery currently enjoyed by the South Korean government would have not been made possible if not for the economic policies promoted by Prime Minister Kim Dae-Jung. A proponent of free-market economy, Kim was able to predict the plight of conglomerate corporations as early as 1984. Kim strongly believes that inadequacy of funding would lead to the collapse of chaebol business groups, which in turn, would trigger economic stagnation. Despite the effects of the regional crisis which swept Asia in 1997, Kim was able to gain a hold on foreign-exchange reserves and interest rates.

Innovators will split Japan into a dual economy
Article Abstract:
The emergence of a dynamic sector in the field of high technology is expected to polarize the Japanese economy. This sector, which will include Internet commerce and other innovative technologies, will compete alongside traditional slow-moving industries and give rise to what will be termed as a 'dual economy.' This development, which will highlight the inefficiency of the old Japanese economy, will usher in an economy that values entrepreneurial spirit and independent innovation.
