Southern China offers a haven for antique-shoppers: for old furniture in its raw state, explore the open markets in Zhuhai and Zhongshan
Article Abstract:
Mainland China is the place to go for old furniture in their unreconstructed state. On highway 105 between Zhuhai and Zhongsan, for instance, a roadside market offers piles of cabinets, altar tables and chairs while warehouses and factories are filled with beds, trunks and bridal carriages. There is also a Ming dynasty temple in Guangdong province serving as a furniture warehouse. Most of these pieces are cracked and stained which lets buyers verify their authenticity and decide how much repair or restoration is needed.
