State business: privatization fever sweeps Asia
Article Abstract:
Many countries in Asia are moving toward privatization as they realize that they cannot be economically competitive if they try to hold up loss incurring public companies. However, the problem with privatization is that private investors are wary of putting money into enterprises that exist solely to provide jobs. Moreover, half-hearted privatization will not be successful because investors expect to exert complete control. Governments that realize the impulses of the market acknowledge the need for profit-seeking companies.

All boxed in: in Asia, everyone pays more for less
Article Abstract:
Asian businesses and individuals pay more for air freight services than others around the globe because of a tangle of anticompetitive rules and agreements. Now Asian airlines and governments want to further restrict the limited access US carriers have in the region, where they already lack a fifth freedom of cargo. It would make more sense to push for more access for the Asian carriers in the US, expand competition, and lower the costs for everyone who sends goods through the air industry.

Asia's ahead, Europe's behind
Article Abstract:
The world economy's main investors are becoming more interested in Asia's buoyant growth as their disillusionment with high unemployment rates, strikes and budget battles in European markets grows. However, Asia has no wish to see a decline in Europe, as it still accounts for one-fifth of the world production, and recovery would open new areas of opportunity to Asia. Asia's superiority is explained in its low tax levels, a sense of solidarity in society and its sense of urgency.
