Still in Europe's shadow
Article Abstract:
The Whitney Museum in New York is the venue for The American Century: Art and Culture 1900-1950 exhibition. The emphasis is on photography and the earliest image is Edward Steichen's photograph of J Pierpont Morgan of 1903. The exhibition acknowledges urbanism and architecture but they are presented as minor arts. Photographs of the city, its skyscrapers and its street life provide examples of insightful urbanism.
