Still sick and gloomy, now rebellious
Article Abstract:
Thailand, South Korea and Indonesia face serious economic problems, and their difficulties have spread to other emerging markets. Indonesian children sleep in the street, some South Koreans have put children in orphanages, and Thai farmers are seeking debt relief. The three countries are using tight monetary policies and other measures prescribed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which do not appear to be helping. Critics argue that the IMF helps protect foreign creditors and the domestic rich, and more people in these countries are taking the critics seriously.
