Storm over globalisation
Article Abstract:
There could be some 200,000 demonstrators at start of talks involving the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Seattle, and they are concerned about the impact of globalization. The WTO has been blamed by greens, labor unions and consumer groups for problems associated with globalization relating to employment and the environment. There is also concern about the accountability of the WTO. There is a need to emphasize the advantages of globalization, such as an increase in prosperity, and there is a need to continue removing trade barriers.

The battle in Seattle
Article Abstract:
Protesters from labor unions, and groups concerned with the environment, human rights, consumer rights and aid plan to meet in Seattle where World Trade Organization (WTO) trade talks are being launched. The talks are likely to cover services, agriculture and intellectual property rights, though no agreement has been reached on the agenda. Increases in exports have led to a rise in global economic growth. Lack of progress could strengthen groups opposing the talks.
