Strabag and Ilbau are one body
Article Abstract:
Strabag Saremo (SS) (Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic), involved in transport construction, expects revival in its sector in the Czech Republic at the end of 2000. The state will have credits from the European Investment Bank (EIB) at its disposal at the end of 2000. SS was set up by the merger of Strabag CR (Czech Republic) and Ilbau (Czech Republic) in April 2000. The merger was decided by the majority shareholder of both the firms, the concern Bau Holding (Austria). A reason for the merger was the setting up of optimum conditions for customers, the simplification of the organisation of both the firms and the utilisation of synergic effects. SS's consolidated turnover totalled 5.5 bil Kc in 1999. SS has taken the second or third position in the field of transport construction in the Czech Republic. The firm has 2,500 employees.

New body can learn from Arts Council
Article Abstract:
The new Architecture Commission should be able to benefit from the experience and achievements of the Arts Council. The Architecture Unit of the Arts Council has laid the foundations on which a new body can be built. Architecture has been acknowledge as an art form, and the Architecture Centres Network was started in 1996. The Architecture Committee of the Lottery was instituted in parallel, resulting in projects such as the new Sadler's Wells, the Tricycle Theater and the Royal Opera House. The new body therefore should closely collaborate with the Arts Council to benefit from cross-disciplinary working.

Mud-slinging, body-slamming
Article Abstract:
There are 16 candidates in the mayoral election in Memphis Tennessee, scheduled for Oct 7 1999. Willie Herenton is the incumbent and is an African American facing an African American opponent, Joe Ford. Herenton has a lead over rivals, but this appears to be lessening. Wrestler, Jerry Lawler, is among the other candidates, and could lessen support for the main candidates. The turnout for previous elections has been low, and Lawler may encourage more people to vote.
