Strategic alliances in technology and life science industries
Article Abstract:
A study looking into safeguarding intellectual property (IP) rights of 127 UK life science and technology firms found some 53% of IT firms agreed their investors did not recognize the importance of IP rights. Intellectual property rights include, confidential data, patents, copyright materials and design rights. Strategic alliances are difficult to manage and a small firm may find it is disadvantaged in an alliance with a larger firm. Strategic alliances are often set up to give access to new markets. Some 82% of telecommunications firms questioned preferred to make strategic alliances.
