Stretching the law
Article Abstract:
European law firms face the erosion of borders, and the entry of international capital. Mergers are becoming increasingly common. Cross-border activity and raising funds in international markets are key activities for international law firms. Law firms may seek organic growth with practices in every country. They can poach lawyers from elsewhere, and they can develop links with other companies abroad. Meanwhile, accounting firms are buying law firms and see the future in terms of multi-disciplinary firms.

The casino closes
Article Abstract:
The number of libel writs has dropped in the United Kingdom, and rewards are decreasing, while risks have become more evident. There have been failed cases, for example, such as that of Gillian Taylforth. There could be a rise in smaller cases due to a new fast-track procedure. Breach of privacy actions could also increase, since British law includes the European Convention on Human Rights. Libel lawyers do not look likely to suffer from a lack of work.
