British and US negotiations of the Bermuda-2 treaty regarding transatlantic aviation between the two countries should be difficult because of different ideas over air traffic deregulation. Complicating matters is British Airways' bid to acquire a large minority stake in USAir.

All aboard: Iberia's acquisitions
Article Abstract:
Spain's state-run airline Iberia has lost over $500 million the past two years but nonetheless is embarking on a major effort to acquire other state airlines. Iberia is able to buy them at huge discounts from countries desperate to reduce their enormous foreign debt.

El conquistador

Iberia, which cost Spanish taxpayers $322 million in 1992, has acquired a number of foreign airlines. Its Latin American purchases of privatized airlines have resulted mostly in losses. Iberia wants to purchase a number of US and Central American airlines as well.
