Article Abstract:
British architect John Edwards used steel-cladding in the design of four houses located next to the River Severn in a conservation area. The steel-cladding was used to support the houses on the river bank and prevent them from being flooded when the river rose too high. The gardens slope down to the river, allowing the houses to be built at an angle. Ribbed profile steel was used for the upper part of the roof, with timber and polystyrene being used for the floors and walls.

A tale of two bridges, and two rivers
Article Abstract:
Chris Wilkinson Architects was responsible for designing the Butterfly Bridge at Bedford, England. This bridge is a complex form, with inclined tubular arches being balanced by more highly stressed hangers. It is in a much more urban setting than the River Irthing Bridge in Cumbria, England, designed by the Napper Partnership. This bridge has been designed to lie below the height of the surrounding trees, thus making it invisible from a distance.
