Success depends on being globally literate
Article Abstract:
Corporations worldwide with foreign operations must develop a global strategy for their top management that goes beyond successful intercultural communication. The six-year study 'Global Literacies' that was directed by international business analyst and adviser Robert Rosen has found that corporate success ultimately relies on absorbing the best traits of every culture where one's corporate flag flies. Rosen's data suggests that the quest for global literacy will only accelerate.

Hot spots of flash points?
Article Abstract:
Trade recovery, already evident in 2000, is expected to continue in 2001. The granting of permanent normal trade relations by the US to China, one of the most historic events of 2000, is expected to serve as the catalyst for increased world trade. However, this optimism is counterbalanced by a renewed threat to world peace emanating from the South Asian region. Diplomatic and trade negotiators are expected to have their hands full in dealing with the threat of a nuclear war between Pakistan and India.

The Y2K threat to world trade
Article Abstract:
Concerns relating to corporations' readiness for the 2000 computer date transition (Y2K) problem have shifted to businesses' vulnerabilities in the area of world trade. A Forrester Research survey of Fortune 1000 firms suggests that 50% of them will experience failures of some of their critical computer systems. This should be a cause for alarm because corporate activities delayed by the Y2K bug could lead to a significant decline in earnings that could, in turn, cause a drop in gross domestic product and, therefore, a recession.
