Suez, GDF offer new concessions to address EU fears about merger

The planned merger of Gaz de France and Suez S.A. also of France is an antitrust law concern for the European Union. The European Union is concerned that the new synergy will dominate the Belgium energy industry. Concessions included Gaz de France divesting its 25.5 percent stake in Societe de Production d'Electricite of Belgium.

French workers are protesting the privatization of the state-owned Gaz de France, a prerequisite for its proposed merger with Suez S.A. First-half net profits of Gaz de France increased by 44%, while Suez's profits rose 39% in the same period.
