Sun Rich wants to revolutionize fruit

Richmond, British Columbia-based Sun Rich Fresh Foods aims to revolutionize the fruit side of its 12-year-old business via in-house- developed food safety initiatives, packaging efforts and marketing programs. Company executive Jim Lightbody said the challenge is to convince food service operators that Sun Rich can provide them with very high-quality fruit without the labor and food safety concerns. The company generates roughly 90% of its total sales from the food sevice sector. It reported $30 million in sales in 1999.

The Telus target

Telus, Canada's second-biggest telecommunications firm, view small- to medium-sized businesses as crucial to its success in the marketplace. Terry Taciuk, VP for customer marketing at Telus, says the business market accounts for half of the company's revenues. Taciuk adds that the category is where a lot of growth is happening, especially in the more advanced services. Taciuk says Telus has increased its advertising budget by 25 to 30%, which is estimated to be about $15 million.
