Supporting human rights in China is good business
Article Abstract:
Human-rights violations in China are rampant but there seems to be a lack of effort to curb them. This situation is exacerbated by the tendency of Chinese authorities to promulgate stiff penalties that are out of proportion with the character of nonviolent crimes. Such action on the part of Chinese authorities is itself a form of human rights violation. International business enterprises doing business in China should do their part in solving this situation.

A gruesome reminder of the horrors of war
Article Abstract:
Gavan Daws' new book 'Prisoners of the Japanese: POWs of World War II in the Pacific' accurately describes how the Japanese treated about 140,000 foreign prisoners of war. Daws drew much of the inspiration for his book from an Australian writer and filmmaker who was one of the foreign military prisoners. Daws revealed the brutality and inhumane treatment given by Japanese soldiers on their prisoners.
