Sustainability in construction - the use of brick
Article Abstract:
Brick has a significant role to play in sustainable development in the UK. Bricks can be used in sustainable surface water drainage systems, thus reducing the environmental impact of urban storm runoff. Furthermore, their use in buildings tends to encourage the prolonged and varied use of these buildings. In this way, the environmental and financial costs associated with demolishing and replacing buildings designed for a single use and with a limited lifespan are avoided. It is becoming increasingly common for old brick buildings to be converted for new uses.

Finding the art of brick - with a tungsten chisel
Article Abstract:
Traditional tools and advanced technology are both used effectively when practicing the art of brick carving. A stone carver must develop an appropriate design which is then transferred onto the brick work by use of masonry tools, diamond cutters and pigmentation dye which enhances the final work. The inclusion of a carved brick design can greatly improve the appearance of a building.
