Swiss Life targets expansion abroad
Article Abstract:
Swiss Life/Rentenanstalt, one of the largest life insurers in Europe, is planning to expand abroad. According to the company, which has earlier obtained three billion Swiss francs from a bond issue, it intends to grow by making targeted international acquisitions, particularly in France and Germany. Swiss Life CEO Manfred Zobl said the company's chief interest is in growth in markets where it already has a presence and where it could boost value as well as premium levels. The company's regions of first choice are France and Germany, but it would also consider opportunities that may come up in countries like Italy and Spain.

BAA says it will keep retail prices low even after end of duty-free sales in EU
Article Abstract:
BAA PLC will keep on selling goods at discounted prices when duty-free sales within the European Union end in June 1999. BAA Finance Director Russel Walls is optimistic that people will continue to buy at airports' shops even after intra-EU duty-free sales are terminated. BAA is looking into possible products and pricing strategies to cover sales lost by elimination of duty-free sales within the EU. Since BAA retails in high volume, it will be able to haggle for discounts with its suppliers and shift the savings to customers.
