TELCO JOINS ASHOK LEYLAND, UPS PRICES
Article Abstract:
Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (Telco) has increased the prices of its heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs), light commercial vehicles (LCVs) and multi utility vehicles (MUVs) from May 15, 1998. The price HCVs has been increased by Rs10,000 to Rs5.75 lakh. The price of Telco's LCVs has been increased by Rs7,500 to Rs5.23 lakh and MUVs by Rs5,000 to Rs4.36 lakh. Telco has not revised the prices for its Safari, Sierra, Estate and Cummins powered trucks. Ashok Leyland has increased HCV prices by Rs10,000 and LCV prices by Rs7,000. (rk)

Ashok Leyland Ltd plans to unveil Panther, its low-floor bus model and the Cargo 1512 parcel carrier at its 49th Annual General Meeting at Chennai on September 4, 1998. The Panther is a 50-seater city bus fitted with a Hino engine and priced at Rs15 lakh. It has a two step entry, driver-controlled doors, air suspension and large windows. The Cargo 1512 is claimed to be ideal for usage as a parcel carrier, tanker and for frozen foods. (khr)

ASHOK LEYLAND GAINING GROUND IN TELCO'S EASTERN STRONGHOLD

Ashok Leyland Ltd (ALL) has been steadily eroding the market share of Telco in the eastern states. Sales of its commercial vehicles has increased to 15 percent share of the market in the eastern states from 6-9 percent in a period of five years. ALL now has 16 dealers with 27 outlets and 72 authorised service centres. The company has increased its all India marketshare to 32.2 percent in 1997-98 from 27 percent in 1996-97. (khr)
