RAW CASHEW, KERNEL PRICES SPURT BY 10%
Article Abstract:
The fears of a crop shortfall in the major growing countries of India, Brazil, Vietnam and Indonesia have increased the prices of raw cashew and cashew kernels by nearly 10 percent in the domestic and global markets. The price of the W320 grade touched $2.75 per pound by the end of March 1999 against $2.50 per pound at the end of February 1999. The prices of raw cashew in the domestic markets have increased from Rs42 to Rs49. The Indian cashew crop season, which normally begins from the last week of February, has been delayed by over a month due to unfavourable climatic conditions. The country's cashew crop is expected to be 3.5-3.6 lakh tonnes against earlier estimates of 4.5 lakh tonnes. (khr)
