The digital future
Article Abstract:
Specialty TV's future will rely on the decision of CRTC on the latest round of licence applications heard in Aug 2000. The call for applications is unique in kind and number and the fact that it represents the future of specialty GV. It was unique in kind since it called for digital services only. The agency has ruled that only applications for digital services will be heard given the capacity problems facing analogue transmission.

Why buy specialty tv?
Article Abstract:
Specialty TVs have two particular strengths, namely, cost efficiencies and the unequalled ability to target audiences. With specialty TV, clients are buying a station and a demographic target. In addition to specialties' precise targeting is their second strength which is the moderate cost per thousand rates that are less than 50% of what the networks charge. The channels' willingness to negotiate keeps costs in line.
