TVA 'converges' with Trustar

TVA Group Inc has acquired Trustar Ltd, a publisher of French-language magazines in Quebec. The purchase by TVA Group, which has a 77.7% share in the market for French-language newstand magazines in Quebec, is consistent with its plans to become a fully integrated communications company, according to its president, Daniel Lamarre. Trustar Ltd.'s most popular magazine titles include Le Lundi, 7 Jours and Derniere Heure, all weekly magazines.

Power Corp. of Canada
Article Abstract:
Power Corp of Canada has signed an all-cash agreement to acquire Hollinger International's French newspapers in Quebec. The value of the agreement was not discolsed, but press reports speculate between $100 million to $150 million change hands. With the acquisition, Power Corp, which already owns Montreal, Quebec's 'La Presse' and other papers, will own periodicals, 'Le Soleil,' 'Le Detroit' and 'Le Quotidien.'
