Tabak's profit sound, but integration hurdles remain

Austria Tabakwerke AG (Tabak) reported strong financial results for the first-half of 1999. The company is also expecting to post stable operating profits for the 1999 year. Tabak is predicting that it will post approximately 1.81 billion schillings (131.5 milion euros) in operating profits for the year. The tobacco firm is also expecting a decline of 40% in its net profits to 1.15 billion schillings and 1.20 billion schillings.

Saipem posted rise in profit, sales for '98; will raise dividends

Saipem SpA posted a 10% increase in its consolidated net profits to 220 billion lire ($123.8 million) for the 1998 year. In 1997, the engineering firm posted 200 billion lire in net profits. Saipem also reported 3.3 trillion lire in sales. This represented an increase from 3.2 trillion lire in 1997. The company stated that it would pay a 165 lire dividend on its ordinary shares. In 1997, Saipem paid 150 lire.
