Talks collapse between TWA, machinists union; strike possible
Article Abstract:
Trans World Airlines' (TWA) contract negotiations with the International Association of Machinists (IAM) union collapsed on May 7, 1999. The breakdown of the talks paved the way for a "cooling off" period of 30-days and a potential strike. TWA has almost 16,000 mechanics, ground workers, and flight attendants in its labor force. TWA is the eighth-largest airline in the US. The IAM and TWA have been engaged in talks since 1997.
