Japanese plan to help Indonesian firms: Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi deal targets $15 billion to prevent defaults

Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi of Japan has proposed to Indonesian and Japanese authorities the development of an exchange-stabilization fund paid for by international bodies and Indonesian currency reserves. The proposed fund would sell Indonesian firms between $10 bil and $15 bil at 5,000 rupiah to the dollar. The proposal comes amid demands for Japan to adopt a more aggressive role in aiding other Asian countries suffering from economic woes.
