Teaching through shopping: the RIBA South East Region has developed 'Go Shopping', a simple programme to interest children in the role of design in their community
Article Abstract:
The RIBA South East Region has developed 'Go Shopping' competitions for local junior schools. Children from the schools are encouraged to design their own model shop fronts to be displayed in a local shopping mall. The success of the competition has led to three more being developed in the region, with more planned. The children used the competition to consider how design influences their views about particular shops.

RIBA discourse: back to the drawing board
Article Abstract:
The 1993 Royal Institute of British Architects' Annual Discourse was given by Dalibor Vesely. His subject was 'Architecture and Creativity in the Age of Production' and he attempted to define the reasons why some architecture is more pleasing than others. However, the discourse was poorly presented and lacked the clarity or challenging propositions expected of this event.
