The market is dominated by Toshiba and Sony who dominate 10% and 12% of the sector respectively in terms of volume. The total UK retail market for television sets in 1995 was 2.78 million units, at a retail value of 830 million pounds sterling, not including rental sets. Large screen sets are estimated to have accounted for 52% of volume sales. Sales of widescreen sets are estimated to have been only 10,000 units, but this sector may see strong growth. In 1995, 26% of households owned three or more sets, from 21% in 1990.
