Ten years on
Article Abstract:
There have been a number of changes in the 1990s linked to the collapse of communism symbolized by the removal of the Berlin Wall. Democracies have been set up in Eastern Europe, and there is less danger of nuclear warfare. The Russian economy has not performed well, and there has been conflict in former Yugoslavia. Other global changes in the 1990s such as the removal of Mobutu from Zaire are less clearly linked to communism. There have been attempts to deal with war crimes, but there has been a lack of idealism among those who have been converted to democracy and the free market.

And all in 20 years
Article Abstract:
Vietnamese Americans living in Palacios, TX, have faced significant challenges. Initially, their presence was opposed by local people, and some were the victims of violent attacks. However, they have continued to work extremely hard, and most of the best boats in the town's harbour are now Vietnamese-owned. Vietnamese Americans are now regarded as defending the traditional American virtues that many Americans have begun to forget.
