Ten years since the wall fell
Article Abstract:
There have been a number of changes in Eastern Europe in the 1990s. There are 27 countries from the eight that formed part of the Soviet Union and Warsaw pact nations, which could be estimated as 30 countries if Chechnya and Kosovo are classified as countries. Most of these countries want to form part of Europe, and new links are being developed. Economic growth initially fell in these countries in the early 1990s, but has since risen in many of them. Democracy has become established in many of these countries. There are still problems such as corruption and unemployment, and there is also a need for civic decency, respect for law, and a larger and more confident middle class.
