Tension brews along borders
Article Abstract:
Malaysia and Singapore are even more separated by an ongoing dispute over a railroad border, the Tanjong Pagar station. After Singapore separated from the Federation of Malaysia in 1965, the two countries have never been friends from then on. The station in dispute is situated across the street from Singapore's sprawling container port. The land where the station is situated is owned by the Malaysian railway Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd. As a consequence of the rift, Singaporean travellers have to pass Malaysian immigration before they can formally exit Singapore and take another train to Malaysia.

Indonesia's journalists will preserve their new freedom by helping to build a lasting democracy
Article Abstract:
Indonesian journalists express high hopes that the new government of B. J. Habibie will exercise extreme fairness towards freedom of expression. This they see as a result of Indonesian society's acknowledgment of their constitutional rights. This change in attitude is enough to influence economic and political changes in the country. They see a new Indonesian society that is sensitive to change, a body that will play the role of check and balance on all government actions.

Cambodia's war against journalists
Article Abstract:
The background of present Cambodian political leaders in serving autocratic regimes forces the current Cambodian political climate to be hostile to journalists and opposition views. Public perception of Cambodian journalism does not help further the concept of free press in the country, since many of these journalists have been found to be on the payroll of political parties. International attention needs to be placed on Cambodia's press to expose human rights violation.
