Judith Grice is head of Water Environment Services, the planning and design consultancy of British Water, which looks after canals an rivers. Grice's team undertakes initial feasibility work, but the design of specific buildings is usually undertaken by external consultants. British Waterways wants to ensure the safety and integrity of the waterways, and Grice believes the waterways will be recognized as being as important as Greek and Roman civilisation in the future.

The aj 100 practices: in the second year of the AJ's survey of the country's largest architectural practices, RMJM has overtaken Building Design Partnership

RMJM is the largest employer of architects in the country according to a survey of 100 practices. It takes the top slot from Building Design Partnership. RMJM added 96 architects over the year and is concentrating on its key areas and increasing its foreign market share. Some practices have reduced in size.
