Thai market wants more: caution prevails following bankruptcy bill
Article Abstract:
Thailand's upper house of Parliament passed a bill amending the bankruptcy law on Mar 12, 1999. The bill will streamline the debt-restructuring process to make problem loan recovery easier for banks. However, the bill received a lukewarm reception from investors and analysts. Some expressed doubts about the government's ability to enforce the bill. Investment houses also changed their recommendations on the Thai market from 'sell' to 'hold' which indicates that they remain cautious about the bill's outcome.
