The Data Always Win
Article Abstract:
In 1970, Austria had a major rubber products manufacturer who planned to construct a new tire plant in a depressed province. Tire sales fell off following the oil situation in 1973, and the tire manufacturer became concerned that the plant would not do well. The firm hired consultants to model the future demand for tires. A model was developed for fifteen years in the future and seventeen different nations, which addressed tire needs for original equipment, replacement tires, trucks, and cars. The impacts of the oil crisis, laws on pollution control, energy, conservation laws, inflation and other pertinent factors were modeled. The model was able to identify only broad trends. Public data was scarce. A data collection problem of a department store in France is also analyzed.

The analysis of survey data
Article Abstract:
Survey data containing a mixture of dependent and explanatory variables is analyzed. It is shown that survey data can be different from other kinds of data in terms of categorical variables, number of variables, missing data, unit non-response and coverage and measurement error. Several survey data analysis models such as general linear, hierarchical linear, graphical and structural equations are discussed.

The comparative efficacy of imputation methods for missing data in structural equation modeling
Article Abstract:
The efficacy of five current, and promising, methods that can be used to deal with missing data is compared. The efficacy will be judged by examining the percent of bias in estimating parameters, with due emphasis on structural equation modeling (SEM), a popular statistical technique, which subsumes many on the traditional statistical procedures.
