The FAA's leap of faith
Article Abstract:
The FAA has ventured forth into the unknown when it replaced its present generation of analog ground-to-air radio communication systems with VDL Mode 3 digital system. Doing so, the FAA bypassed the cautious stance adopted by the Europeans, who used the intermediate Mode 2 digital datalink. The Mode 2 channel has a single data link with a 31.5 kbyte transmission rate while Mode 3 has four channels, two for data link and two for voice.

Choosing the STARS of the future

Problems with the development of software for STARS has delayed its deployment and driven up costs. STARS is four years behind schedule, with US$500 million over budget and projected to cost US$1.4 billion when completed in 2008.

Distortions, falsehoods and outright lies
Article Abstract:

The allegations were that they cited old documents and deliberately distorted or misrepresented quotes from those documents to give credence to their false accusation that Canadian tobacco companies market their product to minors.
