The Philippines are not radically different now than the way they were under the corrupt Marcos reign. Pres Fidel Ramos needs to stop hoping to get back the money embezzled by Ferdinand Marcos and move forward, especially since the departure of the US military.

Ramos toasts his luck

The inauguration of Pres Fidel Ramos in the Philippines marked the first peaceful transfer of power there in 26 years. His success will depend on steady economic development and perhaps negotiating a new deal with the US to keep their troops there.
