The balanced scorecard: a necessary good or an unnecessary evil?
Article Abstract:
The Balanced Scorecard has become a strategic framework and control tool, although many organisations have failed to invest enough time and money to analyse its benefits. An analysis of the Balanced Scorecard shows that it is a 'necessary good' for modern organisations. It has become much more than a performance measurement tool and can provide a framework for determining, implementing and managing an organisation's strategy.

Planning, control, and adaptation: a case study
Article Abstract:
Using the example of a closed Swedish plant, a research paper on understanding the high-reliability organizations manage conflicts in their organizations through bureaucratic planning and flexibility is presented. Understanding planning as a control activity as well helps to understand the different values of the canonical activity of planning.
