The billowing smoke-signals
Article Abstract:
Kosovo, Yugoslavia, has a population that is 90% ethnic Albanians, and it is seeking secession from Yugoslavia. North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato) is unlikely to take action against Yugoslav forces, dominated by Serbians, which are involved in the conflict in Kosovo, according to Pentagon officials. The Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and the Serbs appear to have intensified their efforts after the warning that Nato would not become involved. The KLA argues that it will not negotiate prior to a withdrawal of Serbian troops. The conflict is likely to worsen prior to being resolved.

The sabres are rattling
Article Abstract:

This could involve air attacks on Serbian targets. The Yugoslav government has announced that there is peace in Kosovo, but evidence has since emerged of slaughter US policymakers are seekingto persuade the Yugoslav government to allow some autonomy for Kosovo usingthe threat of air strikes. The war in Kosovo has already threatened to destabilise surrounding areas.
