The revision thing
Article Abstract:
There is often a nostalgic view of the past in the US, and this can extend to the notion of citizenship and community. Yet historical research shows that a rosy view of the past may be misleading. Democracy involved men who owned property, and other people were often excluded from community meetings, according to Michael Schudson, historian, in his 'The Good Citizen: A History of American Civic Life'. Freedom and privacy may be enhanced as people tend to live alone more commonly, though lonliness may also become a problem.
