The countries of Southeast Asia have seen their so-called economic miracle come to a halt, but most of the governments seem unwilling to accept the economic reality of the situation. The World Bank and International Monetary Fund have offered budgetary advice designed to reassure investors.

Bird-brain: healing the deaf

A cure for human deafness may be found in several bird species' ability to regenerate hearing hair-cells. Transplanted bird hair-cells have regenerated experimental guinea-pig tissue.
